Nature and the dynamic flow of life effects my philosophy thus giving my work a zen quality. Art, like life should be kept as minimal and natural as possible.
I am a self-taught artist and experimented with many media, however none touched my soul until I started working with metals. I primarily use non-ferrous metals (copper and brass) because of their unique oxidation qualities. Even though I approach each piece as a three dimensional painting of sorts, I don't use paint, dyes or stains. Instead, all color and texture are acquired by oxidizing the metal. With the aid of the different corrosive chemicals applied to the surface of these raw metals, I am able to produce very lush textures and impressive colors. After the initial layer of patina, I begin selectively removing areas of color and applying additional layers of chemicals. This process produces depth and complexity and aids additional growth of the final surface.
I create one-of-a-kind contemporary patinated metal relief sculpture for the wall suitable for both the corporate environment and the private home. The I Ching states "if something is to grow it must change". Thinking of my art as "living work", I allow it to develop and look to see what happens next, therefore I regard it as art for today as well as the future. My work should live for hundreds if not thousands of years in the proper conditions. My intention is that it will enhance the spiritual essence of the viewer's life by creating an atmosphere of tranquility.
